Beaches of Athens

Many popular and beautiful beaches surround the city of Athens. Since many of the beaches are privately owned a fee is charged for using these. Some of the beaches of Athens are generally crowded.

Glyfada
Huge villas adorn this place. It is a holiday home to many of the affluent people of Athens. It is a popular destination to many during summertime. This town boasts of many luxurious bars, clubs, shops, cafes and hotels. Some of the rocky creeks here are less crowded than the sandy beaches.

Varkiza beach
This beach is the furthest from the town and hence less crowded. Here football, tennis and volleyball courts can be hired on hourly basis. This place is easily accessible from central town of Athens.

Voulisgmeni Beach
This beach offers an array of recreation for tourists and visitors. It offers everything to make your day-right from volleyball courts to waterslides and restaurants.

Cape Sounion
This amazing place houses the beautiful and graceful temple of Poseidon. There are some beautiful beaches some kilometers away from the temple. Some of the beaches of Athens are owned by the hotels, there are many free beaches as well which are empty most of the time. These beaches of Athens which are quiet and secluded are a perfect place for visitors to spend some time by themselves.

Marathon region
There are some really beautiful and long beaches in this region. Athens beaches are generally safe for swimming.

Schinias
The most famous and attractive beach of Athens is located here. The beach is crowded all round the year. This beach is renowned by windsurfers because of its length and its location in a windy area. There are windsurfing clubs located at the end of the beach.

Lousta
This is the nearest of all beaches. The prominent location of this beach makes it crowded and dirty. This beach in Athens offers fish taverns and bars.

Rafina
