The ancient archeological site, heritage structures and water sports are the main Tourists attractions of Athens. Tourists are somehow not yet attracted to the wildlife of Athens.
Acropolis
First time visitor to Athens head straight away to the Acropolis. Most of us are familiar with this citadel, which is balanced on a flat rock about this expansive city. It is from here that the Greek civilization began sprawling. This structure which is in ruins was originally constructed way back in the 4th century BC.
To its right is a temple of Athena Nike which has been rebuilt and restored. The built most supreme monument of Doric architecture, The Parthenon is the greatest tourist attraction of Athens. It is built from marble which was quarried from the nearby mountain. An Acropolis museum houses some of the carvings and frescoes which were recovered from the temple.
Ancient Agora
Huddled beneath the Acropolis are the ruins of the Agora, the commercial and community centre of ancient Athens. Socrates and Plato the great theorist once preached here. Several ancient buildings lie in ruins at this place like Stoa of Attalos of 200BC. It has been restored; this reconstructed building how holds relics which are about 5000 years old. |
