Calcutta Beaches

Job Charnok, an administrator of the British East India Company, founded this beautiful city in 1690. Calcutta or today’s Kolkata, located in the southern portion of the Indian state of West Bengal, was the capital of the nation during the British Raj till 1911.

Calcutta has always remained a major center of education, culture and politics of the country. The most crucial aspect of this city is its versatility and Calcutta offers a lot to its visitors. There are several places to see in this beautiful city which is very aptly called ‘The City of Joy’.

As Calcutta is not located on the sea-shore, geographically the term Calcutta-beaches may sound wrong. But you don’t need to get worried for that because you will get beaches only at a few hours drive from Kolkata.

Digha Beach Tour- when we talk about Calcutta-beaches, Digha beach automatically comes in the first place. Towards the Southern part of West Bengal, you will find the famous beach town of Digha. Here you will get very hard beaches and this place was discovered during the reign of Lord Warren Hastings.

sApart from the shops of local crafts here you will also find plenty of casuarinas plants along the coast. New Digha Beach is more popular among the tourists because it is quite safe. 8 km from the Digha Beach you will find Chandaneswar Siva Temple.

Shankarpur Beach- it is a very newly discovered beach and it’s called the twin beach of Digha. The atmosphere of this beach is very soothing and it offers a very calm surrounding. For the past 2-3 years, the government of West Bengal has made Shankarpur a sea-resort with good hotels, tourist lodges and restaurants. Shankarpur is about 13 km from Digha.

Junput Beach- 40 km away from Digha, this beach offers a beautiful sea-view. Many casuarinas trees can be found in this unspoilt beach. You can spend some time or a night in the inspection bungalow of Junput.

 
     
     
     
     

Frazerganj Beach Tour- only a 3 hours drive from Calcutta, the white sand beach of Frazerganj is a treat for the visitors. You will see many migratory birds in this beach.

Apart from these beaches you can also visit the beaches like; Sagardweep & Bakkhali beach. So you see that while traveling you will find several Calcutta-beaches in or around the main city of Calcutta.
