Calcutta Wildlife

Shibpur- located on the banks of the River Hoogley, Shibpur Botanical Garden is an attractive travel destination in kolkata. It has a Banyan tree that is almost 300years old.

This garden is the home of almost 38,000 fruit trees, plants and rare orchids. Ample buses and taxis are available from kolkata to Shibpur, so you will not face any problem to reach here. Shibpur is almost like an integral part of Calcutta-wildlife.

Sundarban forest- to talk about Calcutta-wildlife, the name of Sundarban is bound to come. This is one of famous forest of our country and world-famous for Royal Bengal Tiger. The term Sundarban comes from the Sundari trees.

This place is like a paradise for any wildlife-loving person; apart from the Crocodiles, Cheetahs, Wild-boar, Monkeys, this place offer a very calm atmosphere. Sundarban is also the home of thousands of mangrove forests, which has roots sticking above the water level.

Sundarban is also the home of numerous mythical constructs like; Ma Bonobibi, Shiber Kumir or Lord Shiva’s crocodile.

 
     
     
     
     

You need the permission of the authority of Sundarban reserve forest for entering this place. You will get many cars and trains to Sundarban from the main city of kolkata.

Jaldapara- situated in Jalpaiguri, a district in northern part of West Bengal, this forest is famous for one-horned rhinoceros. This remote forest has animals like; rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, deer, wild fowl, bison, migratory birds etc.

there are many trains to Siliguri and Jalpaiguri from kolkata, so you will not be having any problem in reaching Jaldapara.
