There is sufficient native wildlife, but as the
development of urban life has taken a big toll for shopping and other
areas, the Chicago wildlife is scarce. The white tailed deer that was
extinct is once again seen in the Chicago region. The recent decade
shows a great increase in the grey squirrel in the suburban towns and
in great portions of the city.
They are found like other wildlife and are
protected by law from trapping and poisoning. Rabbits are also seen
frequently in the lawns and city parks in the daytime. The wildlife in
Chicago is given significance and people try to save the animals from
extinction.
A typical fur bearer called Opossum is found in
towns in the recent years and is invading the heart of Chicago. These
and omnivorous scavengers and reproduce rapidly. Among the Chicago
wildlife the most common are the robin, wood pewee, grackle and
cardinal. The bullbats and hawks are also seen after dusk. However, the
wildlife in Chicago is found among the migratory birds that appear in
spring as well as fall seasons.
