Festivals In Delhi

Festivals are times to let the mind detach from the body. They are the times the mind feels free and the eye grazes on the happiness and the glee that is exhibited by the people. There are various festivals celebrated in India and there is no exception about Delhi. There are also certain Delhi festivals that are celebrated with a great deal of joy. The Delhi celebrations are extremely colorful and enthrall all the people.

The unique mixing of the various cultures in India can be exemplified through the various festivals that take place in the city of Delhi. The city itself wears a festive look during festivals.Delhi is the home to many people for centuries. All these diverse cultures have given rise to various festivals and all these festivals are celebrated in their own unique way.

The religious and state functions are carried on with pomp and splendor. The major Delhi festivals are Durga puja, Holi, Diwali, etc. The Muslim festivals such as Bakrid and Eid are also celebrated in the city. The Delhi celebrations are also known for their cheerful atmosphere. National events such as Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanthi and Republic Day are celebrated in celebrated. A parade is also held for the Republic day at the Rajpath with great pomp and cheer.

Delhi Festivals are many. Lohri is a Punjabi festival celebrated on 13th January marking the winter end and this is celebrated with grand bonfire, song and dance all night. Next day Hindus celebrate Makarsankranti and is known as a kite festival. Numerous colorful kites in various shapes and sizes are seen flying and it is beautiful to look.

Another significant event is celebrated at the Vaikunthnath temple called the Thyagaraja festival in February. This event gives an opportunity to watch some magical performances of south Indian music and dance. Delhi festivals include Maha Shivaratri, Amir Khusrau’s anniversary; Baisakhi, Mahavir Jayanti, and many such events signify Delhi celebrations.

Delhi though has many religions following their own distinct styles of culture, you can see unity. All the people enjoy every event and festival and almost all the festivals are celebrated with great pomp. They perform various pujas and offerings and conduct various programs for each festival.
