History Of Delhi

Every place has its own history as there is always a myth, legend, fact or story behind the origin of each place. The Delhi history is a long one as the city has been present for centuries. The city has also served as a capital city for several empires. The origin of this city is believed to be during the times of the Mahabharata. The city was called as Indraprastha and was the city of the fabled Pandavas.

The city was one among the numerous centers of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 under Bahadur Shah II. But this mutiny was crushed by the British. The British shifted their capital to Delhi from Calcutta.
