For a glimpse of gracious living, tour Goa to watch the Colonial mansions. Built mostly between the 18th and early 20th centuries by Goa’s landed gentry, they are a charming blend of local and European influences and boast the furniture carved in rosewood, Chinese porcelain, oyster shell window shutters, cozy balcaos (pyramid-roofed entrance porches) and grand salons.
Loutolim is a good area to see them, or else Chandor, which boasts the 17th century Menezes Braganza, and the Braganza and Pereira Mansion-the largest and the grandest in the state.

A tour of Goas’s many spice plantations offers a view of Goan life beyond its beaches. To discover, head to the plantations around Ponda, such as the Sahakari Farm where vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon flavor the air and many species of birds and butterflies can be spotted. Some of the plantations also offer excellent Goan Saraswat food and the uniquely Goan drink, the feni, to wash it all down.
Making Goa unique are its many heritage homes, old churches and beautiful temples. Over the years the Carnival has become a symbol of the gaiety that defines Goa. For revelers Christmas and New Year are festive time and not to be missed.
Goa is irresistible when winter sets in, but not many know how lush and vibrant the state can be during monsoons. Try river fishing or trekking or even ecotourism which could be the right choice for a monsoon tour to Goa.
