Tourist Attractions In New Orleans

The French quarter is the starting point of sight seeing in New Orleans. This being the oldest part and is yet a wonder to view numerous souvenir shops, blend of clubs, restaurants and beautiful homes.

The royal street has pretty cast iron balconies and the motif fence enveloping the Cornstalk hotel is amazing. Royal Street is popular for its art galleries and antique shops. Bourbon Street had many clubs and tourist bars.

However, best music can be heard in the French quarter in Decatur or North Peters. All these make great New Orleans tourist attractions. In fact tourists are lured toward these hotels and clubs.

Sight seeing in New Orleans cannot miss the Garden district that has gorgeous mansions of the 19th century and a stroll around this district along the oak shaded sidewalks is a true respite from the raucous pleasures offered by the Bourbon street. The peculiar sight that stops the tourists is the cemeteries that are above the ground. This is so because the city is quite below the sea level.

In fact the towns look miniature from the cemeteries and are at rare times referred to as cities of the dead. New Orleans tourist attractions are the historic sites. They carry utmost significance and is yet preserved which is obvious in their culture.

The historic site such as Jackson Square is a military parade site earlier built in 1721. This site is surrounded by few other historic buildings. Jackson Square is along Chartres and Decatur streets towards the river side.

One of the New Orleans tourist attractions is the St.Louis Cathedral. This place houses numerous street artists and vendors. This cathedral’s interior is very interesting with ancient statues and frescoes.

The choir of this cathedral is really magnificent. Monday to Saturday, mass is held at 7.30 am and on Sunday it is from 9 to 11 am. Sight seeing in new Orleans is such that everything is new and can be viewed as it is worth watching.

Some other sight seeing in New Orleans is the Cabildo. This was the historic landmark and after great fires in 1700s it got totally damaged in 1988 fire.


 
     
     
     
     

The Cabildo now is a home to a variety of Louisiana artifacts. This is open to all except on Mondays. New Orleans tourist attractions are the contemporary arts center that has impressive visual as well as performing arts and the exhibits range from electronic music to modern things such as computer drawings.

There are live performances on music here. The other museums are the Historic New Orleans collection that has documents, furnishings, original maps reflecting the heritage of this place, the Louisiana children’s museum has many things to learn with fun such as arts, music, science, math and theater, and the Memorial hall is another oldest museum that has great collection of political swords.
