When Phuket is considered as a holiday destination shopping facilities is not necessarily the first thing that is considered. There are though plenty of shops in Phuket to keep you occupied if bored of the sandy beaches.

Don’t think that shopping in Phuket is limited to small markets and beach traders; there are some well known companies that operate on the island. There are hypermarkets in the main cities, including Carrefour, Tesco Lotus and Big C.

Those looking to make a day of shopping in Phuket may prefer a visit to the Central Festival in Phuket City or Jungceylon in Patong. These venues are shopping complexes that offer a wide variety of shops, restaurant and even cinemas. They may not be as large as those in major Western cities but there is plenty available to keep most people amused for several hours.

In hypermarkets and shopping complexes prices are fixed, this though is not the case when visiting smaller shops in Phuket, as well as market traders. There are many reduced prices to be had if only you ask about them.

You will not have far to go when considering Phuket shopping, most of the major beaches are likely to have more than their fair share of traders, and a market will not be to far away. These markets will offer a wide range of products from fresh goods, to clothing and DVDs.

For those looking For Phuket shopping that is slightly more unusual there are plenty of antique and handicraft stores from which to buy some interesting items. Antique statues can be brought in many venues in Phuket City, although some items will be subject to an export ban.

For smaller items it may be worth considering jewellery shops in Phuket, if shopping in Phuket City then there are plenty of outlets selling gems, gold and silver at very reasonable prices. It is of course highly unlikely that Phuket shopping is going to be high on your reasons for visiting the island.

Once there though there are plenty of shops to browse around and many people find it a nice change when it is perhaps too hot for them to spend all of the day lazing on the beach.
