Chail Sanctuary
A cool hill station with Deodar and Oak forests with grasslands in between, this Wildlife sanctuary of Shimla was established in 1976 over an area of 10,854 hectares. There a\re many different kinds of birds, langurs and deer which are found in this sanctuary. Barking deer is a popular species found here.
Churdhar Sanctuary
This wildlife Sanctuary in Shimla sprawling over 5616 hectares on the Churdhar peak was established in 1985. Perched on top of the peak is a majestic statue of Lord Shiva. This wildlife sanctuary of Shimla is home of the multicolored Monals. You will also find many different kinds of langurs here. The deers are also in a variety. Musk deer, black deer as well as barking deer is found here.
Majathal Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary is on the Shimla- Bilaspur highway. This sanctuary can be accessed through rugged terrain on Kararaghat – Kashlog and by foot trails. It has the highest concentration of Goral and the endangered cheer pheasant. Winter is the best season to visit this wildlife sanctuary of Shimla. |

Renuka Sanctuary
Encompassing the Renuka Lake, this Wildlife sanctuary in Shimla is home to a large number of animals including the Asiatic lion, spotted deer, lion tailed macaque, peacocks, nilgai or large grey Indian antelope, barking deer and the Himalayan black bear.
